Centrally located between the town of Cashiers and Lake Toxaway, the town of Sapphire or Sapphire Valley was supposedly named for the discovery of sapphires in the area. In the late 1880s the area was the nation’s leading gold producing area with Georgetown Creek yielding significant gold nuggets.

The area boasts many special qualities that make it a wonderful place to reside or visit. Residents and guest enjoy a vast array of amenities, including golf at Sapphire National Golf Club as well as a nine-hole course at Red Bird.

Bald Rock Mountain is the backdrop for beautiful Lake Fairfield which offers canoeing, fishing, and a small beach as part of the amenity package.
