The four varities of grapes grown in the 12 Spies vineyard are Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Tannat and Traminette. All of these grapes grow well in the climate and altitude of North East Georgia. In addition, 12 Spies searches for grapes from the best vineyards outside of Georgia for blending and to make their Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc. The current owner started producing grapes in 2008. Successful in the corporate world, he chose to travel down a new path in life.. In its first ever competition 12 Spies went 3 for 3! 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon: Silver Medal, 2016 Viognier: Silver Medal and 2016 Traminette: Silver Medal.
